Aquagene (Aquatic Plant Conservatory) & Sarovar
Malabar Botanical Garden and Institute for Plant Sciences has a very large collection of aquatic plants of India, it is unique and largest in the nation for ex situ conservation of aquatic/wetland plants and for undertaking research on them. These wetland plants are collected from different regions of the Country and are maintained in the Aquagene.
The water lilies (Nymphaea) and Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) are group of fascinating aquatic plants growing in fresh water situations of the tropical and temperate regions. Species of Nymphaea and Nelumbo brought from all over the country were collected and conserved at KSCSTE – MBGIPS. In addition to this, it is a breeding centre for Nymphaea and Nelumbo to develop hybrid ornamental verities.
