KSCSTE -Malabar Botanical Garden & Institute for Plant Sciences

KSCSTE-Malabar Botanical Garden & Institute for Plant Sciences (KSCSTE-MBGIPS) is an institution of the Government of Kerala, administered by the Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), dedicated to the conservation and research on aquatic plant diversity, lower group plants, endangered plants of the erstwhile Malabar Region, as well as disseminating knowledge on various facets of plant sciences. By virtue of possessing a vast wet land, the Malabar Botanical Garden and Institute for Plant Sciences becomes unique in the nation ideal for ex situ conservation of aquatic/wetland plants and for undertaking research, capacity building and outreach programmes.

  • The UN University, Japan have recognized Malabar Botanical Garden and Institute for Plant Sciences, Kozhikode as their Regional Centre of Expertise in Biodiversity Research

  • Recognised as the international herbarium for Algae, fungi, lichen, bryophytes, pteridophytes, angiosperms, under the acronym MBGH.

  • John C. Jacob Award: The MBGIPS has been chosen for the maiden award instituted by Green World, in memory of environmental activist sri. John C. Jacob. The John C. Jacob
    Award is given to institutions making outstanding contribution to create public awareness on environment-related matters and carries a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and a citation.
  • Recognised as the Lead Garden in Aquatic Plant Biodiversity by the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, GoI

Our vision is conservation of aquatic plant resources and lower group of plants, sustainable utilization, generation of knowledge through R&D activities and dissemination through training and education.

We are trying to promote excellent research in a multidisciplinary environment. We are committed to the development and training of scientists to maximize the impact of science on society.
